Magazine Cover Review

At first when viewing magazine covers, I look to see who’s on there. I don’t pay much attention to a magazine unless a familiar celebrity or athlete is on the cover. I know a lot of people who would say the same thing. I believe it goes with age, today magazines and a lot of news sources are digital so unless there’s someone well known to this generation on the cover, they would say it’s irrelevant. As it states in the article Chances are You won’t, “there was no CNN, no Internet" Wenner told the Times. "And now you can travel instantaneously around the globe, and you don't need these long stories to get up to speed.". Yet the magazine covers that were shown grasped my attention due to how caught up it was with this generations culture.

Likewise, I gained interest on the Rolling Stone Lil Baby edition due to it not only being one of my favorite artists but, the technique the company used in the cover. The cover and his featured article all portray shots of him being independent and up and coming which is why the camera angle (the cover particularly) is an upward look on the artist. The phrase “uprising” Rolling stone uses this to convince viewers he’s next to go down in history, this can also lead to an increase in audiences for Rolling Stone due to the artist having a large fan base.

Next, In the magazine MEN’S JOURNAL Patrick Dempsey a well-known actor is the cover start for this edition. With this cover Dempsey is dressed nicely in a suit and appears to be trying to show a watch to readers. The magazine seems to be trying to keep their audience and shows content a man would take interest in. When reading the cover under Dempsey’s name it describes what his featured article discusses, in the description it says, “On fast cars, big mountains”. Both statements are subjects' men would mostly enjoy and discuss which is building loyalty to the magazine.

GQ is another magazine company that is obtaining readers attention. In this edition the cover is Travis Scott, another well-known artist in the music industry. The cover has such an energetic mood to it with the color scheme. It appears to look like a movie due to how much it pops out along with the font they used for headings. That’s to also grasp the reader's attention primarily the younger one’s since today’s generations have an advanced and diverse culture. In the article Chances are You won’t, it discusses how “most magazines now resemble movie posters more closely than they do the dry pages of a book. They are filled with color, oversized headlines, graphics, photos, and pull quotes”. The cover and the article pictures take the viewer into a perspective where it feels as if it’s just Scott and them along with the vibrant loud but solid colors in a room.

Men’s Health cover displayed Michael B. Jordan a black actor wearing a white tee, smiling. Using a fit African American man while talking about race and racism gains new audience to the company along with brand loyalty since it’s mental and physical health that’s being discussed. The magazine also has significant articles highlighted on the cover such as the “Special Report” and “Supercharge your heart” by doing this they’re telling the reader important topics.

Lastly, Essence magazine is a fashion, culture, and beauty magazine using a black woman dressed nicely defines fashion and beauty this is both an example of brand loyalty since they attract the same audience (females interested in culture and beauty) and an example of securing adverting dollars since fashion is being focused on in this magazine people look at the outfits worn throughout the magazine and get ideas for their own fashion styles which brings them back to the magazine for designs.
