Title Sequence Clips

 The opening scene to any film is a key tone setter in my opinion. The opening scene is the first scene the audience watches. If it’s not interesting and lacking content, then it could lose the viewers' attention. The opening scene also tells you what is about to come or gives you an idea of what is going to happen next. For example, in the SCREAM clip it started off with one character and a phone call as the character continues to hang up the caller continues to call back and harass her which builds suspense as the viewer watches this happen, they can assume something bad is about to happen to the character which grabs audience’s attention. As “First frames: titles in the digital realm” states, “Film titles are very important because they set up the expectation of an audience”. In Scream this technique is used as an eye catcher with the big red lettered words “scream”. Red is linked to blood in horror movies since there is often various amounts of it. Along with the suspenseful background screaming which can make the scene much more frightening and horrific then it already is. 

Opening scenes also play a part in foreshadowing as well. In the Lion King it seems as if the whole community of animals came out to see the lion's baby being born this foreshadows his significance already establishing, he is the protagonist in this movie.

  When watching the opening scene of Pulp Fiction, the bold yellow words stick out and grasp viewer’s attention along with the fast-paced music in the background which matches the situation that occurred before the opening credits (robbery), as it states in the article “Titles in the digital realm”, “The typography and visual style created in the opening sequence can establish the mood and image system”. The print of bold yellow letters with the adventurous music in the establishes a mood and idea of the movie. 

To add on in the movie What about Bob I believe the opening music foreshadows the type of person the main character is. The music type you would match with someone clumsy or a child and the main character talking to himself repeating “I feel good, I feel great, I feel wonderful” and saying “wish me luck” too his goldfish verified the music matches the character. 

Lastly, in the opening of Apocalypse Now it portrays what appears to be a forest on catching on fire and you see a helicopter flying above it. A character then wakes up and the helicopter chopping seemed to be a fan which I believe the character was dreaming. The forest burning resembles destruction which leads to an apocalypse. I think the characters dream is foreshadowing what is about to happen in the movie.
